This album is aptly titled. Eric Reed creates some very contemplative, plaintive melodies on this album that reveal his roots in the black church and his comfort with jazz harmonic structures. Eric Reed's approach to jazz piano is analogous to what Richard Smallwood creates through his gospel compositions: both are thoroughly jazz grounded musicians who are eclectic mixture of many other dominant forms of African-American artistic expression. His phrasing is like breath: cathartic, expansive, effusive unspeakably beautiful respiration.
